BACKGROUND

IHSAN was set up in 2000 by a group of Muslim women who were seeking alternatives to mainstream education for their children. A number of us have sent our children to school and then chosen to withdraw them, some of us have chosen not to send our children to school from the beginning, still others are seeking other ‘alternatives’ in education such as setting up small home ‘schools’ or combining part-time schooling with home schooling. We all however share a desire to provide our children with a quality education with Islam at its core.

• A quarterly newsletter that includes:

1. Information on the legalities and practicalities of Home Education.
2. An Islamic perspective on Home Education.
3. Reviews of Islamic, Home Education, Arabic and other educational resources. Also, regular reviews of Internet sites.
4. Examinations of different educational approaches and philosophies of learning.
5. News and Events for Muslim home educators across the UK.

• A resource list which covers: Islamic resources, other appropriate educational resources and other organisations that can assist parents.

• An option to join our contact list that enables subscribers to contact each other for support.

• A membership card for the family to provide evidence that you are a Home Educating family.

IHSAN is a non-profit organisation run entirely by volunteers.
