ARABIC
ACTIVITIES FOR YOUNGER CHILDREN Make learning Arabic fun for your child. Here are a few suggestions for
the early stages. These activities work better if there are a small group of
children learning together. Alphabet:
Colours: Cut out ten large circles from card. Paint them different colours. Spread
them around the room. Ask the children in turn to jump to a colour, then jump to
another colour. You need the basic Arabic yourself to play this game!
Alternatively ask who can be first to jump to a colour – but don’t expect
the circles to last as long if you play this version! Animals: Get
the children to sit on chairs in a circle, chairs facing outwards. Give each
child a picture of an animal and go through the Arabic names with them. One
child is the lion. Call out the name of the lion and one other animal. Both
children have to jump up and the animal has to run around the circle and try and
get back to his seat before the lion catches him. There’s no need to set a
direction in which to run, as this makes it more fun. The children love this
game and very quickly learn the animal’s names! Every few turns change all the
cards around and have a new lion. - Umm Hafsa PREVIOUS PAGE HOME *** ISLAMIC
